Overview

Jobs & Education Volunteers support neighbors who are working toward greater stability through employment, training, or education. Volunteers provide practical guidance and encouragement as participants explore career goals, prepare application materials, search for opportunities, and navigate educational pathways.

This role helps individuals build confidence and strengthen the skills they need to pursue long-term self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

Help participants create or improve résumés, complete job applications, search for employment, prepare for interviews, explore training programs, and identify educational opportunities. Volunteers may also assist with basic computer skills, online applications, goal setting, and connections to relevant community resources.

Who Can Get Involved

This role is a good fit for patient and encouraging adults with experience in hiring, human resources, career coaching, education, workforce development, résumé writing, or professional mentoring. Volunteers should be comfortable working one-on-one and supporting participants without making decisions for them.

Logistics

Volunteers generally serve at Friends In Deed during office hours, Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A commitment of at least one regular shift per week is preferred. Meetings may be scheduled around participant availability and current program needs.
