Big View Team Volunteer

Work alongside Leaders and Allies to identify and address the systemic and policy-level barriers that keep families trapped in poverty.

Commitment

Weekly attendance for the full cohort (approximately 18 months)

Location

Friends In Deed

Overview

Big View Team Volunteers help address the broader systems and policies that make it difficult for families to move out of poverty. Working alongside Circles Leaders, Allies, and community partners, volunteers identify recurring barriers and explore ways to create lasting community-level change.

This role moves beyond helping one household at a time. Big View Team members use the experiences of program participants to better understand issues related to employment, transportation, housing, education, childcare, and access to services.

Responsibilities

Participate in discussions with Circles Leaders and Allies, identify common barriers affecting families, research community issues, and help develop possible solutions. Volunteers may connect with local organizations, attend community meetings, support awareness efforts, collect information, or advocate for practical changes.

Who Can Get Involved

This opportunity is well suited for adults who are interested in community development, public policy, advocacy, research, or systems change. Volunteers should be willing to listen to people with lived experience, collaborate with others, and work patiently toward long-term solutions.

Logistics

Volunteers attend weekly Circles meetings at Friends In Deed and are encouraged to participate for the full cohort, which lasts approximately 18 months. Some projects may involve additional meetings, research, or community activities outside the regular weekly gathering.
